Rifle

Positional shooting and fundamentals across rifle action types, grounded in traditional American riflecraft.

Who it's for
Ages 8 and up. New shooters and experienced shooters wanting a structured refresher on rifle safety and fundamentals.
Prerequisites
None. Bring a positive attitude and a willingness to learn, everything else is taught during the course.
Length & format
Single day, generally about 8 hours including a lunch break (for example 8:30am–5:00pm). NRA courses are objective-based, so exact timing can shift around the day's goals.

Overview

This is a comprehensive, instructor-led program covering safe rifle handling, proper operation, and fundamental marksmanship, combining classroom instruction with hands-on, live-fire training on the range.

Practical instruction includes shooting from multiple positions, bench rest, prone, sitting, standing, and kneeling, along with rifle inspection and cleaning. The live-fire portion is conducted outdoors under direct supervision, rain or shine, and finishes with a nationally standardized marksmanship qualification.

What to bring

  • The attitude to learn, the ability to remain patient, and the willingness to follow instructions. Everything else is taught during the course.
  • Eye and ear protection, minimum for any live-fire session
  • A shooting mat
  • At least 100 rounds of ammunition
  • Two magazines
  • Your own centerfire or rimfire rifle if you have one; a limited number of loaner rifles and equipment are available (loaner ammunition not included and at additional cost, centerfire depends on range availability)
