First Steps

A hands-on introduction to safe firearms handling for complete beginners, families, and youth shooters.

Who it's for
Complete beginners, families, and youth shooters who want a low-pressure first introduction before committing to a full course.
Prerequisites
None. This is designed as the entry point for people with no prior experience.
Length & format
Generally 3 to 4 hours for a single-platform orientation, shorter than a full Basics course by design.

Overview

First Steps is the on-ramp, not the destination. It's a focused, hands-on introduction to one specific firearm action type (pistol or rifle, your choice), so a new shooter or a family isn't overwhelmed before they've even touched a gun.

It runs at least three hours and includes both classroom time and range time on that one platform.

This offering is configurable and may include limited live fire if requested.

What you'll learn

  • The NRA's rules for safe gun handling
  • Parts and operation of the specific firearm used in class
  • Ammunition basics
  • Shooting fundamentals at an introductory level
  • What a logical next course looks like

What to bring

  • The attitude to learn, the ability to remain patient, and the willingness to follow instructions. Everything else is taught during the course.
  • Eye and ear protection, minimum for any live-fire session
  • Nothing else is required; a limited number of loaner firearms and equipment are available, and the platform (pistol or rifle) is confirmed when you book
